About Fandom Haven

Why I Built Fandom Haven

I've been watching anime since I was a kid. Long before it was as mainstream as it is now, I was trying to fire off Kamehemas and move at super speed with varying levels of success (I was actually pretty decent at track & field). Dragon Ball Z and Rurouni Kenshin were my gateways, and now that I'm an adult my love for these fandoms and many of the ones that came after them has only deepened.

At the risk of sounding sappy, these shows had an enormous effect on my personal growth. They shaped how I think about failure, sustained effort, loyalty, and how to find meaning in seemingly small things. I still find myself modeling behaviors I learned from these fictional protagonists, though fortunately with fewer attempts at ill-fated ki blasts.

All jokes aside, my fandoms are important to me, and I think it is difficult to understand why a show, manga, movie, or game can mean so much to someone unless you've experienced that kind of thing yourself. Our fandoms give us a way to connect more deeply with ourselves, with others who share our passions, to process our own growth, challenges, and personal character arcs, and yes, even to give us some escapism from a reality that doesn't always live up to our own expectations.

As I've gotten older and the internet has gotten bigger, I've found that many of the quizzes, articles, guides, and discussions around my favorite fandoms are being created or even dominated by people who aren't actually fans. 20 years ago, no one was writing guides about Dragon Ball Z unless they were absolute fans of DBZ. But now a new season of Demon Slayer drops and there's 20 clickbait articles written by people who have never even seen the show.

To be clear, my intent is not to gatekeep. If you're a fan, then you're a fan. You don't need to prove it to me. But for a long time I've wanted a home for fans like myself who can connect with their fandoms in a place that is built and sustained by people who share a genuine love for the fandom itself. That is what I built Fandom Haven to be. It's what my 12-year-old self thought the internet was going to become. It's a literal haven for fans like me to feel like kids again and to share our mutual love for the fandoms that shaped us and that continue to do so even now.

What You Will Find on Fandom Haven

Fandom Haven publishes personality quizzes, watch guides, lore explainers, deep-dives, and character analysis for the fandoms that matter to me, starting with the ones I know best and going from there. My three founding fandoms on this site are My Hero Academia, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Attack on Titan. However, I have plans to expand to more fandoms, and the list will not be limited only to anime. If you have a fandom you want to see covered, reach out to me at contact@fandomhaven.com.

Everything published on this site is created according to my strict editorial guidelines, and you can expect every article and quiz to be thought-provoking, well-researched, and accurate. My quizzes are more detailed than the average internet quiz, and they're intended to be both entertainment and mechanisms for self-reflection and deeper connection with your fandoms. Refer to my quiz publication guidelines for a detailed breakdown of how Fandom Haven quizzes are made and what makes them different.

About the Founder

I'm Micah, founder and primary author of Fandom Haven. I'm a writer, anime enthusiast, lover of video games, enjoyer of good screenplays, and someone who takes internet quizzes just a little too seriously. Most importantly, I love to think critically about my fandoms, debate and critique them, and generally engage with others who share my passions. Fandom Haven is my personal project and attempt at creating a little haven on the internet where fans like me can geek out about the things we love. If that sounds cool to you, then stick around. And if you'd like to get involved in some way or just say hi, you can always reach me at contact@fandomhaven.com.
